Your Irvine Breast Enlargement

Dr. Smith performs most of his surgical procedures at The Laguna Hills Surgery Center in Laguna Hills, California. The center is a private facility offering a state-of-the-art environment with the highest levels of safety, comfort and privacy. The Laguna Hills Surgery Center is located on El Toro Road just minutes from the 405 and 5 freeways. The Ayres Hotel is located conveniently in the same complex if you should require a hotel stay.

General anesthesia is Dr. Smith's preferred choice for breast surgery, though he will discuss all options with you. All anesthesiologists are board-certified and experienced in outpatient surgery.

The procedure itself last 60 to 90 minutes, and you'll spend about two hours in recovery before going home.

Recovering from Breast Enhancement Surgery

Dr. Smith will apply a postoperative support bra after surgery. You may notice a small amount of blood on the gauze bandage over the incision.

During the first two days following your procedure, you can expect moderate discomfort you should be able to control with the prescribed medication. You may notice pain when you use your arms or get up from a lying or sitting position. You may also see some bruising and swelling. It is important to limit your activity during this time to ensurea smooth reconvery.

Dr. Smith will want you to come in for a post-operative visit the first or second day following surgery. Your dressings will then be removed and you'll be fitted with a bra to wear for a few weeks.

Most patients feel they are able to return to light work within just a few days. You can expect to tire more easily than usual for several days and you should refrain from strenuous activity. After several days you should find your swelling much improved and feel able to resume a normal routine.

Scarring and Complications

The short (approximately one inch) incision Dr. Smith uses for breast enhancement is generally placed in the fold under the breast, under the arm, or around the areola (nipple). If a large breast lift (mastopexy) is done at the same time, additional incisions may be necessary.

The resulting scars generally heal very well and are often nearly invisible. Everyone heals differently, however, and scars are unpredictable. If a scar heals with a slightly undesirable appearance, there are several methods for improvement.

The most common complications after breast augmentation are cosmetic, including dissatisfaction with size or symmetry. These can best be avoided by good communication before surgery. Other issues such as capsular contracture and implant rupture can occur. These will be discussed during your consultation. And you can read more about advantages and disadvantages of implant types on our Implant Options page.

After Your Breast Enhancement Surgery

Most patients want to be active physically and sexually. The procedure is designed so that there should be no restrictions after normal healing. Once you are fully recovered, you can resume your active routine with no limitations.

The goal of breast augmentation is for you to love your figure. Request a FREE surgical consultation with Dr. Smith to explore the exciting possibilities.
