Rhinoplasty in Orange County

A rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) operation is done to change the appearance of the nose. The operation can simply refine the appearance or reduce the size. In some patients who have difficulty breathing, this operation may help them breath more normally. The operation can be done in all age groups, including teenagers and the elderly. The best way to learn about your unique options for rhinoplasty in Orange County is to request a FREE surgical consultation with Dr. Smith. Or, call our Irvine plastic surgery office at 949.242.0851 or contact us in Corona at 951.817.7049.

Insurance Coverage for Rhinoplasty

In some cases, nose surgery may be covered by your insurance plan. To find out if it will be, check your plan documents and talk with a member services representative with your carrier. Some plans will cover all or a part of the cost of this procedure if it is performed to correct breathing difficulties or is a reconstructive rhinoplasty. Unfortunately, purely cosmetic nose surgery is not covered by insurance, though our practice offers several affordable financing options to help you fit cosmetic surgery into your budget.

Rhinoplasty in Orange County

The method of surgery is to separate the skin of the nose from the underlying skeleton of bone and cartilage. The bone and cartilage are then reshaped and the skin re-draped over the surface. Patients who have a deviated septum may benefit by correction of this problem at the time of surgery. The incisions are placed inside the nose, unless an open approach is needed. In this case a small scar will lie across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils). Sometimes if the nostrils flare, Dr Smith may make an incision at the junction between the nose and the skin of the upper lip to narrow the flared appearance. It is fairly common to combine rhinoplasty with chin augmentation to improve the profile of the nose and chin. The operation is done under either local anesthetic with sedation (you are awake) or general anesthetic (you are asleep). Most patients are happier when they are asleep. You can choose. Most of the time this is an outpatient operation and a stay in the hospital is not needed.

Problems

All operations have some risk. The risks of surgery are divided into two groups. First those that can be seen in all operations and second those that are unique or special for this operation. In the first group, the main risks are swelling, bruising, bleeding, infection, a scar and numbness or change in feeling. The main problem which is special for this operation is the need for secondary surgery, usually minor, in about 5-10% of patients.

Postoperative Care

The recovery takes one to two weeks. Most people are back to work within a week or two.
