The use of BOTOX Cosmetic in Irvine, Corona, and throughout Orange County has become quite common in the past several years.

That is because this revolutionary product – based on purified botulinum toxin – has proved to be an effective non-surgical solution for face and neck wrinkles that can contribute to a prematurely aged appearance. BOTOX injections from Dr. Smith help diminish the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles, leaving you with smoother, younger-looking skin.

If you are exploring your options for BOTOX or other facial rejuvenation treatments, the best thing to do is to contact us online or call our Corona and Irvine plastic surgery offices at (949)-653-7000. Dr. Smith and his friendly staff will answer all of your questions, and help you look forward to your treatments.

What BOTOX Can Do for You

When injected into the tiny muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles, BOTOX temporarily relaxes those muscles for improvement in:

  • Vertical frown lines between the eyes
  • Horizontal lines across the forehead
  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes

It can also be used by a skilled practitioner to smooth neckbands and to enhance the arch of the brows. Dr. Smith’s patients often combine dermal filler injections with their BOTOX treatments for a “liquid facelift.”

Irvine Botox

Your Botox Treatment

At our practice in Irvine BOTOX is injected through a tiny needle into the specific facial muscles that are causing wrinkles or bands in the neck.

Dr. Smith will determine the best placement of the injections and the optimal amount of BOTOX. Most patients are in and out of the office in less than 30 minutes, and discomfort is minimal.

Botox Recovery and Beyond

For most women and men, the only side-effect of BOTOX treatment is a little redness and swelling at the injection site.

This fades right away, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. BOTOX results emerge over the course of 5 to 10 days, and typically last 3 or 4 months. Many researchers believe that regularly scheduled injections produce a prolonged effect.

Our experienced team consistently provides natural-looking results by placing the injections precisely and injecting the proper amount of Botox (just enough, but not too much). Our Botox patients can expect to look naturally refreshed, not “frozen” or expressionless.

Both BOTOX and Dysport are used to treat dynamic wrinkles by relaxing targeted facial muscles. Here are some differences:

  • BOTOX usually takes 5 to 7 days for noticeable results; results from Dysport tend to appear within 2 to 5 days of injection.
  • Dysport spreads farther from the injection site than BOTOX, which is helpful when treating larger areas such as the forehead.

In some cases, Dysport treatments may cost less than BOTOX treatments because comparable results can be achieved with less of the product.

BOTOX treats wrinkles indirectly, by addressing the muscle contractions that cause them. Injectable fillers such as Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® add volume, smoothing out wrinkles and folds from underneath the skin.

Dynamic wrinkles such as horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet around the outer corners of the eyes are caused by repeated contractions of facial muscles. Botox contains a purified protein (onabotulinumtoxinA) that temporarily stops the contractions of facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. Once the facial muscles stop contracting, the associated wrinkles gradually smooth away.

The United States FDA approved Botox for cosmetic use in April 2002 and in 2004 expanded its approved uses to include treatment of excessive underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis). The main ingredient in the product has been used for medical purposes for many decades.

When performed by an appropriately trained and experienced practitioner, Botox treatments are very safe and have a low risk of complications for most people.

When injected into specific facial muscles, Botox treatments can provide results similar to a subtle brow lift. Placement of the injections depends on whether you want the whole brow or outer brow lifted, but focuses on relaxing facial muscles that naturally pull the brow down. The Botox brow lift is a good choice if you aren’t ready for surgery, but unlike surgery the results are temporary.

A liquid facelift is a non-surgical option for taking years off of the face through the use of injectable products. This procedure is a good choice for women and men who do not wish to have surgery, and for patients who have early signs of facial aging such as wrinkles, thinning lips, and volume loss on the cheeks and around the eyes. To rejuvenate the face without surgery, we use:

  • Dermal fillers to reduce folds around the mouth, smooth out wrinkles, restore volume to the cheeks and lips
  • BOTOX or Dysport to soften dynamic wrinkles and enhance the results of fillers

Together these complementary treatments provide beautiful facial rejuvenation without surgery or downtime.
